Workshops at Waltti

The Halli workshop is focused on different types of woodwork – fixing the old and building something new. In addition, the participants get to do surface treatment work on wood items. A significant portion of the workshop activities consist of tasks ordered by the different service areas of the City of Salo.

In the textiles and handicrafts workshop, participants get to experiment with various techniques (such as embroidery, crocheting, sewing, and upholstery), learn and try out different methods of handicrafts and textile work, and design and manufacture products sold at Waltti. The workshop participants have also completed commissioned projects such as theatre costumes and furniture restoration projects.

The catering kitchen prepares food daily for the people working in the building. The administrative branches of the city can also order food for different meetings and events. In addition to practical catering work, the participants learn about basic nutrition and how to prepare healthy food. 

The Iskuryhmä workshop (Taskforce in English) serves the city’s various administrative branches and units all over Salo. The workshop participants paint, renovate, and restore yards, beaches, and park areas. Both internal and social moving within the city form an essential part of the activities. 

The IT workshop WLab is located on the Salo IoT Campus. WLab can verify the competence of jobseekers, establish networks with companies in the field, direct jobseekers to further studies based on basic education or competence, familiarise them with contemporary systems, find employment opportunities in companies in the field, and offer workplace-oriented practice assignments. WLab is part of the workshop activities organised by the City of Salo employment services.
