Applying, receiving a decision, and accepting a day-care place
You can apply for a place for your child in early childhood education all year round. You must apply for day-care no later than four months before the need for care is planned to start. If the need for care arises unexpectedly due to employment or studies, a place in early childhood education will be arranged within two weeks.
In Salo, service coordinators for early childhood education provide advice on applying for early childhood education, handle all applications, make the decisions on places in municipal day-care centres, family day-care, and play schools, and award service vouchers for private day-care centres or group family day-care. Applying for evening and shift care
If you apply for evening care or shift care (round-the-clock and weekend care), you must add to your application a certificate to prove that both parents are working evenings or doing shift work. The certificates shall be submitted to the service coordination unit for early childhood education.

Decision on a place in early childhood education
The decisions are made approximately one month before the intended start of day-care. However, children who are starting in early childhood education in August will receive the decision already in May. Urgent applications are processed within a period of two weeks.
