Stray animals

If you lose a pet or find a stray animal, you should notify the local animal welfare associations, as they may have information about the animal. The Perniö Region Animal Welfare Association and Salo Region Animal Welfare Association provide guidance regarding stray animals and animal welfare.

The City of Salo has an agreement with animal care facilities on the temporary care of stray animals. A captured animal is kept in the animal shelter for at least 15 days, after which the municipality has the right to sell, otherwise hand over, or put down the animal. If the owner of the animal is found, the owner or keeper of the animal is charged with a fee for the costs of catching, caring for, and possibly euthanising the animal.
