Elections

The following general elections are conducted in Finland:

  • parliamentary elections every four years,
  • county or municipal elections every four years,
  • election of the President of the Republic (presidential election) every six years, and
  • elections to the European Parliament every five years.

The right to vote on general elections is universal. This means that all people who meet the statutory requirements are entitled to vote.

The central municipal electoral boards are responsible for the general arrangements of the elections in the municipality. In municipal elections, it is also responsible for the nomination of candidates and the calculation of the result.
